SDMK - Danish National Academy of Music

The Academy of Music in Esbjerg's new home in the converted Old Electricity Works from 1907 is an impressive example of cultural innovation in former industrial structures.

Designed by the architect C.H. Clausen, its pronounced round gable above a powerful antique Greek entablature, strong rhythm and striking columns (especially the arch framework in H.C. Ørstedgade) are reminiscent of Vienna around the year 1900, with its blend of Classicism and Jugendstil.

A guided tour of the building can be arranged. DKK 25 per person.

The Café Ørsted is open for all Mondays - Thursdays from 08.00 - 15.30 and Fridays from 08.00 - 14.00.
During the holidays of the academy the cafe is closed.
